The Reef

Thoughts rise
like scattered fish
in the warm pelagic zone called “me.”

Peering down, far below,
I see a black Madonna
In the concrete rubble reef.

Sunlight, sunlight,
everywhere sunlight.

Scuba diving down,
the sun slats
paint a fence line
across the face of the Madonna.

Below, the reef,
coral, parrotfish,
and–no me at all!

Goodbye Katherine Dunn

Goodbye you crazy good writer. Goodbye you purveyor of geek love, you hunter of living gargoyles, you lover of boxing as it should be and connoisseur of life in all its tawdry finery. We will miss you writing sentences that spin the head around.

P. S. Please finish Cut Man,
wherever you are.
